IQAC

As part of its Action Plan for performance evaluation, assessment, accreditation, and quality upgradation of higher education institutions, the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in Bangalore recommends that all institutions establish an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) as a measure to sustain quality. Recognizing that quality enhancement is an ongoing process, the IQAC integrates into the institution’s structure, focusing on achieving long-term goals related to quality improvement and sustainability. The primary responsibility of the IQAC is to create a system that ensures continuous, conscious, and catalytic improvements in the institution's overall performance. During the post-accreditation phase, it will guide and direct the institution’s efforts toward promoting holistic academic excellence.

The guidelines provided in the following pages aim to assist institutions in establishing and operating the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC). The IQAC's role is the first step toward internalizing and institutionalizing quality enhancement initiatives. Its success relies on fostering a sense of ownership and active participation among all members of the institution. It is not another hierarchical structure or a record-keeping task, but a participatory, facilitative, and voluntary system that works collaboratively. The IQAC has the potential to drive quality enhancement by developing and implementing targeted strategies to address deficiencies and elevate quality, much like the "Quality Circles" employed in industries.
